Three Practical Suggestions to Overcoming The Distracted Life

Yesterday I mentioned 3 problems preventing us from living with a sacred rhythm. Today I want to offer a solution and 3 suggestions for the first problem (The Distracted Life). Many of us live distracted lives. We spend so much time thinking about the past or our future that we fail to live in the present.  Worry is one of the key things that keeps us from being fully present.

THE PROBLEM: Worry divides the mind; it keeps us hostage to our past and fearful of our future (both of which prevent us from fully living in the moment).
THE SOLUTION: STOP WORRYING! Jesus put it like this, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34). As someone else once said, “Wherever you are, BE THERE and not somewhere else.”

So, here are 3 practical suggestions to help you overcome The Distracted Life:

  1. Unplug electronic devices that interrupt relationships (turn off notifications on your devices).
  2. Devote time and attention to others without interruption (put your phone on “do not disturb” when your with others).
  3. Turn your anxious thoughts into prayer requests (“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.” Philippians 4:6)
