Three Quotes from @BobGoff Part 1

I’m looking forward to our upcoming Men’s ConferenceBob Goff will be back with us again for the 4th time along with Erwin McManus and Michael Jr. With that in mind the next several posts are going to highlight some quotes from his book Love Does that will encourage you to get to the “do part” of your faith:

  1. Living a life fully engaged and full of whimsy and the kind of things that love does is something most people plan to do, but along the way they just kind of forget.
  2. …we need to stop plotting the course and instead just land the plane on our plans to make a difference by getting to the “do” part of faith.
  3. In the end, love doesn’t just keep thinking about it or keep planning for it. Simply put: love does.

Your turn… What resonates with you from these 3 quotes?

PS: Guys, come meet Bob at our MENS CONFERENCE (January 27-28, 2017).

Three Books Focusing on Love

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I thought I would recommend 3 of my favorite books that focus on love:

Love Does shares powerful stories coupled with eye-opening truths and empowers anyone who longs for a better world and a richer faith. In this book of compelling stories coupled with eye-opening truths, author Bob Goff shows you a new way to live, a way that’s drenched with the whimsy of God’s love and the spontaneity of following where he leads when he says “Go!” In this book, you learn what it looks like to be secretly incredible and advance God’s kingdom everywhere you are and wherever you’re going.”

“Before we can truly love another, we must receive . . . God’s love! Best-selling author Lucado takes a revealing look at 1 Corinthians 13, illustrating biblical principles with his characteristic warm and winsome stories, and reminding you not of a perfect love you are incapable of giving—but one you cannot resist.”

“Discover the Single Greatest Secret to a Successful Marriage. Psychological studies affirm it, and the Bible has been saying it for ages. Cracking the communication code between husband and wife involves understanding one thing: that unconditional respect is as powerful for him as unconditional love is for her. It’s the secret to marriage that every couple seeks, and yet few couples ever find. Today, you and your mate can start fresh with the ground-breaking guidance that Dr. Emerson Eggerichs provides in this book. His revolutionary message, featured on Focus on the Family, is for anyone: in marital crisis…wanting to stay happily married…who’s feeling lonely. It’s for engaged couples…victims of affairs…pastors and counselors seeking material that can save a marriage. Using Dr. Eggerich’s breakthrough techniques, couples nationwide are achieving a brand-new level of intimacy and learning how to: – stop the Crazy Cycle of conflict – initiate the Energizing Cycle of change – enjoy the Rewarded Cycle of new passion. And if you’ll take this biblically based counsel to heart, your marriage could be next!”

Your turn… What are some other books we should check out that focus on love?

Here are 3 more eye-opening truths from Love Does by Bob Goff:

  •  I used to think I needed to record stories, but now I know I just need to engage them.
  • I used to think clinched fists would help me fight better, but now I know they make me weaker.

Three Eye-Opening Truths from Love Does by Bob Goff, Part 15

Here are 3 more eye-opening truths from Love Does by Bob Goff:

  •  I used to think words were all the same, but now I know there are some words I shouldn’t use.
  • Faith isn’t an equation or a formula or a business deal that gets you what you want. In short, there’s nothing on the other side of the equals sign, just Jesus.
  • I think God doesn’t spell out everything for us in life, but He does tell us how we can write our lives better; and trusting Him implicitly is always the right place to start.

Three Eye-Opening Truths from Love Does by Bob Goff, Part 14

Here are 3 more eye-opening truths from Love Does by Bob Goff:

  •  I used to think religion tasted horrible, but now I know I was just eating the fake stuff.
  • If you ask a thousand people who don’t want anything to do with religion why that is, they’ll tell you all the reasons they don’t like it, but I doubt they’d be describing the real stuff.
  • People don’t want to be told that their experiences were wrong or that their wrapper or someone else’s wrapper is made of the wrong stuff. Instead, we get to be the ones to show them real love from a real God.

Three Eye-Opening Truths from Love Does by Bob Goff, Part 13

Here are 3 more eye-opening truths from Love Does by Bob Goff:

  •  I used to think I needed to sacrifice for God, but now I know faith is like a game of Bigger and Better.
  • Actually, the real game of Bigger and Better that Jesus is playing with us usually isn’t about money or possessions or even our hopes. It’s about our pride. He asks if we’ll give up that thing we’re so proud of, that thing we believe causes us to matter in the eyes of the world, and give it up to follow Him. He’s asking us, “Will you take what you think defines you, leave it behind, and let Me define who you are instead?”
  • The cool thing about taking Jesus up on His offer is that whatever controls you doesn’t anymore. People who used to be obsessed about becoming famous no longer care whether anybody knows their name. People who used to want power are willing to serve. People who used to chase money freely give it away. People who used to beg others for acceptance are now strong enough to give love. When we get our security from Christ, we no longer have to look for it in the world, and that’s a pretty good trade.

Three Eye-Opening Truths from Love Does by Bob Goff, Part 12

Here are 3 more eye-opening truths from Love Does by Bob Goff:

  •  I used to think the words spoken about us describe who we are, but now I know they shape who we are.
  • I think God speaks something meaningful into our lives and it fills us up and helps us change the world regardless of ourselves and our shortcomings. His name for us is His beloved.
  • The words people say to us not only have shelf life but have the ability to shape life.

Three Eye-Opening Truths from Love Does by Bob Goff, Part 11

Here are 3 more eye-opening truths from Love Does by Bob Goff:

  •  I used to think I had to be somebody important to accomplish things, but now I know Jesus uses ordinary people more.
  • I used to think I needed an invitation to get into most places, but now I know I’m already invited.
  • Accepting the invitation to show up in life is about moving from the bleachers to the field. It’s moving from developing opinions to developing options. It’s about having things matter to us enough that we stop just thinking about those things and actually do something about them. Simply put, Jesus is looking for us to accept the invitation to participate.

Three Eye-Opening Truths from Love Does by Bob Goff, Part 10

Here are 3 more eye-opening truths from Love Does by Bob Goff:

  •  I used to think you had to be special for God to use you, but now I know you simply need to say yes.
  • I think God sometimes uses the completely inexplicable events in our lives to point us toward Him. We get to decide each time whether we will lean in toward what is unfolding and say yes or back away.
  • We were all meant to save many lives. God is always trying to save lives, and it seems like He usually uses the least likely people to do it.
