Three Resources from Jennie Allen

Update: we had a great conference with Jennie Allen on October 11-12, 2013. Make sure you check her resources out soon.

This weekend Jennie Allen will be speaking at our Women’s Conference | Embrace Adventure | at The Hills. Jennie’s passion is to inspire a new generation of women to encounter the invisible God. She loves words and believes God uses them to heal souls and to reveal Himself to people. With that in mind, here are 3 of her resources you should check out:

“Zac and I climbed into bed on a completely average night two years ago. We were pretty tired. We just laid there looking at the ceiling, with only small firework fantasies of what God might say. Zac took my hand and spoke the simple words we had been processing for the past few months but not yet been ready to say.  God had been opening our eyes to how precious our temporary lives were and how numbly we were moving through them. We were over it. We were over building our lives. We were over houses and cars and cute Christmas cards. We wanted something; we couldn’t put our finger on it. It was burning in us. We had loved so many other things more than God. We were ready to do anything. So we prayed. As sincerely asI have ever prayed any other thing, I prayed in my heart as Zac spoke: ‘God we will do anything. Anything.’ It didn’t feel fancy. It wasn’t even a big deal. But the prayer held in it a thousand little deaths. In saying anything, it meant we were handing him everything. My heart raced a little at the thought… and then we fell asleep.”

“We’re all chasing after something, something that we think will make us happy—comfort, success, a bigger house, or someone’s approval. But if we are all honest, it feels like trying to catch the wind. A man after God’s own heart… As David’s life weaves throughout the pages of Scripture, we see he was a man who spent his life chasing after God. Chase explores the events that defined David’s life and the Psalms that flowed out of those experiences. Through David’s example we’ll discover what God really wants from us. The lessons in this study are simple yet deep and very interactive, offering Bible study, stories, and projects to dig into Scripture and deeply engage the mind and heart. God has carved out a space in each of us that only He can fill. So whether you are running from God or working your tail off to please Him, David’s journey will challenge your view of God. God is invisible, and yet He is the only thing we can chase that won’t leave us feeling more empty.”

“This study began for me out of a deep struggle—a stuck place. It would serve better to call it something a tad more dramatic . . . it was a war. The kind of war that happens inside of you, the kind that nobody sees. God versus me and all my junk. It wasn’t something I could even put words to at the time. In fact, those close to me were oblivious to the chaos ensuing behind my gathered exterior. But it was real and raging, and even though I couldn’t describe it, I was keenly aware of its presence and was exhausted by it. I was stuck. I experienced a sense of bondage I could not name and did not know how to escape. The outside of my life was bright and shiny, but inside I was a mess: anxious, lonely, afraid, and looking for significance. This study exists because I know I am not alone in this. The more I am let into the deep crevasses of people’s hearts, the more I am convinced that every one of us is fighting something. Yet we look out from our secret wars and see people who smile peacefully and seem to be all right—and we smile back at them.  I’m done smiling. God is about doing something on this planet. He is about doing something in me, and as long as I am privately fighting and losing inside, He is not getting a thing done through or in me. He has a plan for these spaces inside of us, the places we feel broken, but we have to go to Him. Stuck is a journey to take an honest look at the fight going on inside, leading us to the God who has a plan to restore it, to restore us.”

Your turn… Take a moment to share how any of her resources have blessed you.  PS: Make plans to attend the conference this weekend, October 11-12 at The Hills Church, North Richland Hills, TX. Register now!
